She's a Man, Man!

I've been enjoying myself watching Olympic figure skating. Not because of the artistry, athletic ability, or the thrill of chanting "U S A." No, I've enjoyed it for very different reasons. It's freaking hilarious! Honestly, it's like being led into a barn full of fat, lazy turkeys, given a shotgun and told to "Go hog wild." Only the shotgun is actually jokes about ridiculous outfits and borderline pedophilic one liners from the commentators (I'm looking at you Scott Hamilton).
As a side benefit of watching the comedy show on ice, I've stuck around for the late night show with Mary Carillo. And I'll be a stuffed ground squirrel if she isn't a dead ringer for Bruce Jenner. Just take a look:

(Because I understand how difficult it is to tell the two apart: this is Bruce Jenner.)

(This is Mary Carillo.)

Now, granted Mary is a few face-lifts away from the deer in the headlights perma-grin of Bruce. But the hair, the teeth, the crazy high cheek bones? Just try to convince me they weren't separated at birth (I feel a LifeTime movie coming on: "Not without my Jenner" starring the Olsen twins).
When I first saw her with Bob Costas, the TV was on mute and I was like "Wow, what's Bruce Jenner doing at the Winter Olympics?" Then Natalie told me it wasn't Bruce. And that's when things got all crazy for me. Now whenever Natalie's watching Keeping up with the Kardashians (it's really sad that I spelled that right on the first try), I'm like "Is that Bruce Jenner or Mary Carillo?" And that totally throws off my timing when I'm trying to make fun of that show. It's really frustrating.

On a sidenote, while searching for Mary Carillo in Google images—this was one of the results:

(Hey Beijing, smell you later!)

Orca, You're Awesome. But Sometimes You Act like a Damn Turkey

Growing up, my siblings and I had a lot of freedom to run wild. But sometimes my dad would have to rein us in. And he would use a euphemism to let us know we were straying too far into wacko land. He would say "Josh, I love ya, but you're acting like a damn turkey." And that was the cue to chill the heck out or else. A little while ago I posted about Orcas and how awesome they are. And then I saw this:

Now, don't get me wrong I still love Orcas. They drop the hammer on great white sharks and that goes a long way in my book. But, come on Orca! You can't just go around snatching trainers like that. Consider this the much needed jerk to your proverbial leash (a leash that can contain a 13,000 lbs animal with millions of years of evolution pointing it in one murderous and inevitable direction). It pains me to say this, but I have to—Orca, I love ya, but you're acting like a damn turkey.

Olympic Moments

Shaun White gets gold! Did you think he wouldn't?

Apolo Ono becomes the most decorated winter olympian ever. Do you think they could come up with a cuter helmet for speed skating?

Johnny Weir gets 6th place. Lame. Does a guy with a black and pink mantard (with tassel) deserve 6th? I say no.

Torah Bright takes gold! She is awesome. I want to be here one day. Since she lives in Sandy,UT I think next Olympics she should ride for Team USA?

Bode Miller won all Medals!

Lindsey Vonn got gold too! Leg injuries can't stop her.

We are a little olympic obsessed. It is the ONLY tv we have watched all week. We are dedicated cheerleaders for Team USA. However I do have one question. Is it just me or is ice dancing weird and to make it even stranger why are there so many brother and sister teams?

2.14.20TEN

Happy Day of Love & Friendship! I am so thankful to have such a loving group of friends and family. I am also thankful for having Josh as my permanent Valentine. Its fun to have a day (besides our anniversary) once a year to celebrate our love. Even though people say Hallmark made this holiday up, I still think its an important holiday. Who doesn't like to feel loved??? I hope everyone felt loved today.

Above are some decorations I made during a Heros marathon. Josh and I were sick and I was tired of not "doing" anything so I decided to make some cute decorations. I stole the paper lantern tutorial from HERE.

Orcas are Awesome

My dislike for sharks is a well known and documented fact. For further confirmation just ask the Wyricks. I like the ocean, but I never go to the beach without thinking about what lurks just beneath the surface. Slippery silver tubes of death with nothing but teeth and pain to offer this world. And now Great White Sharks have decided to take to the skies, have you seen the leaping sharks of Shark Week? Orcas (Killer Whales to the layman) on the other hand, totally awesome. They are like giant murderous penguins, and I love penguins (thank you Elijah Wood).

So you can imagine my excitement when I saw this video on Digg: "Killer Whale eats Jaws." Now that's good news. Finally somebody decided to stand up to this bully of the seas and put him in his place. What's the best part about this? The Orca used Killer Whale kung fu on the shark! Even though the Orca had like 500 lbs on the shark, he decided to go all Steven Seagal and put it in a sleeper hold before ripping its throat out. Booyaa Orca! How do you like them apples Mr. apex predator of the ocean?

So after the Orca dispatches of the shark, he decides to add one more celebrity impersonation to his resume and goes Hannibal Lecter and eats the shark's liver (no fava beans or warm Chianti though). Righteous! Can you tell I really dislike sharks. This video really is pretty awesome.

Winter Greatness

At the end of January it snowed, and then it snowed and then, yep, it snowed some more. We went to Snowbird and had the best day of the season so far. I had so much fun! I love it when there is a ton of powder. You feel like your floating/flying down and across the mountain. It's a fantastic feeling! Plus when you fall its like falling into marshmallows. How magical is that?

Cody was demonstrating the deep powder and its awesomeness.

Beth and I having fun. I was actually on my way down. This photo just makes me look like I'm posing.

Me at the end of the day. My legs burned! I had 2 crazy falls. One came out of no where. All the sudden I was flying down the mountain and the next thing I know my face is in the snow. Plus someone was off to the side watching. I told them I meant to fall really fast (and hard). The next fall was down a really steep part of the mountain. I think I did a flip, not sure though. I generally just go with it when I'm falling. My body hurt, but it was a great day. Check out the great view. The 'outdoors' are beautiful in white.

How cute is Josh?

This was last weekend. We rode the tram to the top and admired the beautiful views. The clouds on the left of Josh were rolling in really fast. It was like we were on top of the world!

The Cats have been doing a lot of this lately. Sleeping and snuggling and practicing being adorable while we are at work.

How adorable is this? I give it five full stars of cuteness. I snuck this photo before leaving for work the other morning. Yeti is in heaven and Josh probably is too.

My Most Favorite Band

Brand New came to town a few weeks ago so of course we were there! They have the perfect mix of all elements of music that I love. They have a beautiful mix of: wit, emotion, sadness, love, revenge, friendship, life lessons, religion, irony, guitar screeching solos, intense drums, really intense singing and a little screaming. All of which make your arm hairs stick straight up. Most of all they really know how to ROCK! This was our third time seeing them live and they did not disappoint. They make me so happy. I can always listen to them and count on being transported into music heaven.

The opening band was Dusty Rhodes. Josh and I decided they were straight up 70's rock. They were great. The lead singer was a wild one. He played the keyboard and accordion. It was red so I had to take a photo for my dad because my dad had one just like his that he played when he was younger.

Second band was Manchester Orchestra. They are a new band whom we started listening to this past year. They were great live too. Brand New knows how to pick a great line up.

{Brand New}

BTW look how close we were! Second from the front and we never got squished! :) These are all phone photos.

I will leave you with 2 of my favorite Brand New songs

"The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows"

We saw the western coast
I saw the hospital
Nursed the shoreline like a wound
Reports of lover's tryst
Were neither clear nor descript
We kept it safe and slow
The quiet things that no one ever knows

[Chorus: x2]
So keep the blood in your head
And keep your feet on the ground
If today's the day it gets tired
Today's the day we drop out
Gave up my body and bed
All for an empty hotel
Wasting words on lower cases and capitals

I contemplate the day we wed
Your friends are boring me to death
Your veil is ruined in the rain
By then it's you I can do without
There's nothing new to talk about
And though our kids are blessed
Their parents let them shoulder all the blame

[Chorus: x2]
So keep the blood in your head
And keep your feet on the ground
If today's the day it gets tired
Today's the day we drop out
Gave up my body and bed
All for an empty hotel
Wasting words on lower cases and capitals

[Bridge: x2]
I lie for only you
And I lie well...
Hallelu...

[Chorus: x2 (words from bridge continued in the background)]
So keep the blood in your head
And keep your feet on the ground
Today's the day it gets tired
Today's the day we drop out
Gave up my body and bed
All for an empty hotel
Wasting words on lower cases and capitals

"Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't"

I am heaven sent,
Don't you dare forget.
I am all you've ever wanted,
What all the other boys all promised.
Sorry I told. I just needed you to know.
I think in decimals and dollars.
I am the cause to all your problems,
Shelter from cold. we are never alone.
Coordinate brain and mouth.
Then ask me whats it like to have
Myself so figured out.
I wish I knew..

I hope this song starts a craze.
The kind of song that ignites the airwaves.
The kind of song that makes people glad
To be where they are,
With whoever they're there with.
This is war.
Every line is about,
Who I don't wanna write about anymore.
Hope you come down with something
They can't diagnose, don't have the cure for.
Holding on to your grudge.
Oh its so hard to have someone to love.
And keeping quiet is hard.
Cause you cant keep a secret
If it never was a secret to start.
At least pretend you didn't wanna get caught..

We're concentrating on falling apart.
We were contenders, we're throwing the fight
But I just wanna believe, I just wanna believe,
I just wanna believe, in us.

Oh, we're so c-c-c-c-c-controversial.
We are entirely smooth.
We admit to the truth,
We are the best at what we do.
And these are the words you wish you wrote down.
This is the way you wish your voice sounds,
Handsome and smart.
Oh my tongue's the only muscle on my body
That works harder than my heart.
And its all from watching TV,
And from speeding up my breathing.
Wouldn't stop if I could.
Oh it hurts to be this good.
You're holding on to your grudge.
Oh it hurts to always have to be honest
With the one that you love.
Oh, so let it go..

We're concentrating on falling apart.
We were contenders, we're throwing the fight
But I just wanna believe, I just wanna believe,
I just wanna believe.
We're concentrating on falling apart.
We were contenders, we're throwing the fight
But I just wanna believe, I just wanna believe,
I just wanna believe, in us.

This is the grace that only we can bestow.
This is the price you pay for loss of control.
This is the break in the bend,
This is the closest of calls.
This is the reason your alone,
This is the rise and the fall.

We're concentrating on falling apart.
We were contenders, we're throwing the fight
But I just wanna believe, I just wanna believe,
I just wanna believe.
We're concentrating on falling apart.
We were contenders, we're throwing the fight
But I just wanna believe, I just wanna believe,
I just wanna believe, in us.

The Nie Nie Dialogues

Lately I have been enthralled with Stephanie Nielsons blog. Talk about an amazing person/family. Her story is so beautiful/tragic, but most of all intensely inspirational to me. I stumbled upon it through a friends blog. Last year her and her husband were in an almost fatal plane crash. Her body was 83% covered in burns. He was covered in 30 something percent. Before the accident she would blogged about everyday family life, her 4 kids, husband, juggling being a wife and a mom. Even though she and her family have suffered this tragedy she is still positive and inspirational. What a great example she is to me. I couldn't imagine what she has gone through!!! Talk about a serious life trial. She is LDS and has a strong testimony of the Gospel which is helping her through this trial.

Here is the link: Nie Nie Dialogues

From reading this blog I have been pondering many things in my life. My trials seem so itsy bitsy compared to hers. It makes me feel a little silly for the things I think are 'a big deal.' I have the Gospel, my wonderful husband Josh, my awesome family, fantastic friends and good health. What more could I really need in life?

If you get a chance checkout her blog. Josh is even hooked ;)
