Whats in a Name?

Actress - Natalie Wood (who i was named after)

Lately I have been thinking a lot about nicknames and my nicknames. Nicknames are complicated to me. For example, how long do you have to know someone before you can call them by their nickname? Which nicknames are you allowed to call someone by? What does it mean 'friendship wise' when you start calling someone by their nickname? Are you then better friends with them, or closer? Does anyone else feel this way?

So here are my main nicknames:
Naddie
Nat
Nats
Na
Nat-attack
Nattle
Natta-shay
Naddie-Boo
Nat Wy
Natkins
. . . and the list goes on.

I have one nickname that most people use which is Nat. Most of my friends call me Nat. But I have a secret. I kinda giggle inside when people call me Nat. I don't know why I feel this way. Nat is a perfectly normal nickname for my name. Right? But it is so funny to me. I have never felt like 'Nat'. However I completely accept Nat as my other name and I don't want people to not call me Nat. Maybe I should think of it as an abbreviation of Natalie and not so much a Nickname? Plus I'm little like a gnat so Nat should be pretty fitting for me, right?

My real nickname is Naddie. Everyone in my family (grandparents, uncles, aunts & cousins, etc.) call me by that name. I'm not really Natalie to them I'm Naddie. My other name is Na which my dad holds exclusive rights to. I feel like Naddie is me.

In conclusion Nat is my most socially popular common nickname and I find it funny for some odd reason. I'm totally weird.

I'm calling you Naddie from now on. I mean I qualify as family right? Also, I just wanted to point out- you forgot narco. I agree with you that calling someone by a nickname implies you're better/closer friends. That's why it almost makes me laugh when someone I've just met calls me Cass. haha

Well that was a fun read. I think I'll stick to Natalie seeing as how I am only a friend and not family or a closer friend.

The most common nickname for Wesley is Wes. It's funny because there are a lot of Wesleys who go by Wes. Personally, I really like my name, Wesley, so that is what I go by. Only a few family members call me Wes, but they have since I was little.

For some reason, I don't know if it's laziness or what, but it seems like people always try to go for the short name rather than long when meeting someone.

Cassie - Yes you are family and I'm upset with myself that i left out Narco! It as such a special meaning for me.

Wesley- I agree about people always going for the shorted version of a name when you first meet them. But I find it strange because I feel like they don't know you well enough to start shortening your name!
